About Amateur Radio
Amateur radio, also known as ham radio, is a hobby and service that uses radio equipment to communicate. Amateur radio operators can communicate across the street, around the world, and even into space, all without using the internet or cell phones.
To operate an amateur radio station, you need a license issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). There are three license classes, each requiring you to pass an exam:
- Technician Class - Entry level license with VHF/UHF privileges
- General Class - Intermediate license with HF privileges
- Extra Class - Highest level with full operating privileges
Disclaimer
This website is an independent study resource and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the FCC, ARRL, or any official amateur radio organization. The questions presented are from publicly available FCC question pools.
